The incumbent will serve as the Superintendent of Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The Park is the second-largest urban national park and one of the most visited units in the National Park system. The Park stretches over 60 miles end-to-end with 91 miles of bay and ocean shorelines and runs through three counties in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Superintendent manages all park operations, including a workforce of approximately 400 permanent and temporary staff, in addition to many volunteers, in support of a variety of visitor services, and multiple physical facilities, and administers a large, complex budget plus funds from a variety of other sources, including non-profit partner organizations. Responsibilities include:

A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.
--SES does not have Veteran's Preference and time in grade restrictions. Competitive status is not required.
--Individuals selected for Senior Executive Service positions may be subject to reassignment across geographical, organizational, and functional lines.
--The Department of the Interior structures its SES positions into categories to determine the minimum pay for each position. Pay is set based on consideration of the selectee's current salary and other factors.
--Pay increases and recognition if applicable, are based on performance in the SES.
