As our nation navigates the COVID-19 pandemic, our agency remains committed more than ever to delivering our mission to safeguard America's borders and enable legitimate trade and travel. Driving forward our hiring process to staff mission critical positions continues to be one of our highest priorities. First and foremost, we want to provide you reassurance that CBP is still hiring, despite potential delays with some hiring process steps due to COVID-19 restrictions that impact in-person activities.
As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If you are selected and receive a final job offer, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination before appointment or onboarding with CBP. CBP will provide additional information regarding what information or documentation will be needed and how you can request of CBP a legally required exception from this requirement.
Primary law enforcement positions are expected to report to their duty station on a daily basis. However, due to COVID-19, some positions in CBP are currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, and you are given on an entrance on duty date you will be provided additional information on the reporting requirements of your position. You will be expected to report to the duty station as instructed.
Being a Border Patrol Agent makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession. Typical assignments include:

You will also be provided training to become proficient with the Spanish language and will be tested on your language abilities.
Language Proficiency: Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Spanish instruction will be provided at the academy.
Residency Requirement: CBP has a residency requirement that applies to all applicants not currently employed by CBP. You are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three (3) of the last five (5) years, before completing an application for CBP employment. If you do not meet the residency requirement and have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two (2) of the last five (5) years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions:
There is no Education Substitution for this grade level.
Polygraph Examination: This is a polygraph-required position.
