This position serves as a Director, Applications Development, in headquarters within the Office of Management and Administration (OMA), Office of Inspector general (OIG) Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). OMA supports OIG's mission by providing comprehensive administrative services to the agency, including IT customer support, systems and network administration, application development, IT security threat detection and risk mitigation activities, data analysis and predictive analytics support.
The Director, Applications Development, is responsible for software development and design efforts in areas that require extensive and intensive knowledge of accounting, mathematics and statistics, and computers; and may have substantial impact on various highly visible programs. The incumbent reports to the executive-level Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Management and Administration / Chief Information Officer (CIO) and is also responsible for coordinating and collaborating with the CIO, Chief Information Security Officer, Chief Data Officer, Director for IT Customer Support, Director for Enterprise Systems and cross-directorate stakeholders in managing comprehensive IT and data activities and initiatives for the OIG and supervising a staff of IT specialists and contractors.

For this position, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.
Specialized Experience: For a GS-15 is at least one (1) full year of experience at the GS-14 level, or equivalent. This experience as provided below, should have equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience includes:
- Experience with coding to develop web and database applications to support enterprise needs, as well as testing and implementing those solutions; AND
- Experience planning and directing applications development staff who are responsible for software development; AND
- Experience planning, implementing, and directing robust processes to ensure that threats and deficits in IT protection, operating capacities, and network stability are identified and remedied; AND
- Experience planning, implementing, and directing overarching IT security projects and initiatives.
