Knowledge Required by the Position
Possess experience Using social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and/or YouTube to promote program activities; required ; knowledge of HTML and ability to use content management systems to update websites (familiarity with Drupal a plus); experience using and reporting on Google Analytics or other web and social media performance metrics; experience with copyediting, formatting, and publishing documents using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro, and After Effects; experience and/or education that demonstrates a background in in African studies/affairs; and knowledge of organizations, networks, and listservs and groups that are part of the U.S.-Africa policy community in Washington, D.C.
Applicants must have at least one full year (12-months) of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the Grade 6 grade level (relative to market standards) showing excellent organizational skills; providing communications support, including drafting web content; creating social media content and managing social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook; LinkedIn and Youtube; conducting and providing reports on web, Google, and social media analytics; coordinating publication design and dissemination; managing email marketing; developing communications plans; coordinating media requests and engagement; maintaining communications databases; and supporting event design and execution, including event photography.
To be minimally qualified applicants must possess excellent organizational skills; compose professional correspondence, reports, and a variety of other publications using proper English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style; copyedit and proofread materials for publication and possess a Bachelor’s degree or experience that demonstrates a background in communications and African studies/affairs.
