This is the position of Librarian (Digital Technologies and Development) in the NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) Project, High Energy Astrophysics Division of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. The ADS is the primary digital library portal for researchers in astronomy, astrophysics, planetary science and heliophysics. The ADS corpus consists of over 15 million documents and is growing at a rate of several thousand per week.

The incumbent collaborates with the CFA and external users to define, implement and support the services and programs that enhance the research and access to the data collection. The incumbent works to support the efforts of the ADS Library by designing and implementing, new tools, technology and services and will be involved in collection management, assisting with content decisions, documentation and user support.

Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree;
or
A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have directly related education and/or specialized experience.
Grade 9: Minimum of one year specialized experience equivalent to at least grade 7 in the normal line of progression for this occupation. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position such as knowledge of preparation, coordination, execution and assessment of collaborative projects, programs, and events; developing collaborative projects; maintaining comprehensive project documentation with project staff; participating in daily content management activities.
