Bandelier National Monument Major Duties:
VUA will collect park entrance fees at park entrance station, visitor center, campground, or other visitor contact stations following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds; operates a cash register and safeguards funds collected. VUA will open and close facilities and provide visitor services throughout the park including disseminating current and accurate information to visitors concerning Bandelier NM and other surrounding areas of interest, recreational opportunities available, orientation/explanation of current park events, and resource management projects. These services may be provided at information stations or while roving the park. As well, VUA will provide orientation talks and may provide informal interpretation (impromptu talks). Other duties include informing visitors of the rules of park usage and the importance of complying with them, helping with emergency operations, and continuing park operations. Employee may assist with traffic control at park entrance and other locations, gathering information from reporting parties concerning accidents/incidents occurring within the park area and notifying appropriate personnel, emergency medical treatment to current level of training and responsibility, minor maintenance duties to insure a clean, safe work area, and restocking supplies as needed.
Bandelier National Monument Area Information:
Located on the slopes of the Jemez Mountains of northern New Mexico, Bandelier National Monument is a 33,000+ acre monument established to protect the Ancestral Pueblo sites found here. Bandelier includes a designated wilderness area of 23,267 acres and an 800-acre detached archeological section. The Monument preserves numerous archeological features of a late prehistoric period, which represents the transition of the Pueblo Indians from the prehistoric Ancestral Puebloan to modern traditions. Annual visitation exceeds 150,000. Bandelier is located 45 miles from Santa Fe, 32 miles from Espanola, and 12 miles from Los Alamos. The terrain is rugged but beautiful, from 5,300 to 10,199 feet with headquarters located at 6,000 feet. Summers are hot with afternoon thunderstorms being common in late summer. Petrified Forest National Park Major Duties:
The incumbent provides information and assistance to all visitors, collects and accounts for fees at the entrance stations. The incumbent provides information on the park's recreational opportunities and services, distributes maps and other printed information, and provides directions. Employees are responsible for collecting fees and accounting for the funds collected. The incumbent performs opening and closing shift functions, enters information into an electronic Point of Sale system, issues entrance receipts, park passes, and verifies entrance passes. The incumbent completes shift reports to verify money collected and accountable stock sold from all transactions. The incumbent must be willing to learn remit using RBMS. The employee may perform other safeguards funds collected and accountable stock and duties associated with the fee collection program such as restocking supplies, performing traffic control, assisting with park closing, and minor maintenance.
Petrified Forest National Park Area Information:
Petrified Forest National Park is located in northeastern Arizona, bisected by U.S. Interstate 40, approximately 26 miles east of Holbrook, Arizona. The park has a concession operation that includes a curio shop, restaurant and gas station. Beyond this, other services are not available in the park. Some shopping opportunities exist in Holbrook. Greater shopping opportunities exist in Flagstaff, AZ (110 miles west) or Gallup, NM (70 miles east). Major shopping centers exist in the metropolitan Phoenix, AZ (225 miles) and Albuquerque, NM (210) miles) areas. Year-around recreational opportunities abound within a short commuting distance. The park is situated on a high plateau with an elevation averaging 5,600 feet, with a semi-arid climate. Temperatures range from 0 in winter to 100 in the summer. Precipitation averages 9 inches per year. A junior college (Northland Pioneer College) campus in Holbrook offers classes and workshops for adult education/enrichment with both day and night classes.
