The Human Landing System (HLS) Program is responsible for management of the commercial development of the human lander that will carry the first woman and the next man to the Moon in 2024. The HLS Deputy Manager shares responsibility for implementation of the Program's goals and objectives, consistent with the Agency exploration strategy. Additionally, the incumbent shares responsibility for day-to-day management, development, integration and operation of the HLS Program and matrixed team.

This position reports to the Manager of the Human Landing System Program Office. The Deputy Manager of the Human Landing System Program Officeis responsible for:
- Recommending and implementing program policy; scheduling; and planning and directing the Program's development, test, production, and operations activities.
- Managing the integration across mission phases and with other exploration programs and establishing and controlling Level 2 requirements and configuration.
- Managing the integration across multiple commercial industry partners.
- Serving as program-level interface with external entities and coordinating requirements with Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate (HEOMD) leadership, other Government agencies, the private sector, and international partners.
- Working with the Technical Authorities for Engineering, Safety and Mission Assurance, and Health and Medical to ensure the program meets the NASA requirements in these areas.
- Working with the NASA Centers in their areas of expertise to ensure the program meets the NASA requirements as an integrated team.
- Determining and implementing program policies and priorities and participating in the overall general management direction and evaluation of operations and activities of all direct reporting organizations.
- Managing the HLS-specific design requirements related to HLS development, in-flight assembly, operability, and maintenance, establishing processes by which partners development interfaces are defined and integrated.
- Managing NASA, contractor, private industry, and international partner contributions to the HLS throughout the development life cycle.
