The Social Worker practices in the VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System (VAECHCS) Outpatient Mental Health Clinic at Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center. The incumbent functions at the full performance level which requires completion of a minimum of 1 year of post-MSW degree experience and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. The incumbent adheres to the NASW Code of Ethics. The social worker primarily provides services on an outpatient basis.
This position is designed to provide a single point of contact to enhance coordination and collaboration for all requests for enrollment in the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. The position requires the ability to collaborate with diverse multidisciplinary staff across a number of programs and settings within the VA and within the community with the goal of ensuring that veterans are able to access appropriate mental health care in a timely manner. The candidate must have experience in working with a complex, diverse mentally ill veteran population, have strong clinical assessment and intervention skills and the ability to communicate effectively. The candidate must have experience working with veterans at risk of suicide and homicide, and experience in assessing and managing this risk appropriately. The position will also require strong computer skills.
Responsible for processing all mental health consults directed to services in the Rocky Mountain Regional VAMC Outpatient Mental Health Clinic.
Thorough familiarity with the skills and techniques of psychosocial assessment and treatment, including the most current evidence-based practices as applied to the veteran population. The incumbent functions independently, providing highly skilled recovery-oriented communication, treatment planning and coordination to facilitate seamless access for veterans into appropriate mental health treatment. The incumbent works as the veterans' advocate in coordination with other professional staff within both inpatient and outpatient settings to attain this goal.
Provides complex telephone evaluation and triage with crisis intervention as necessary to veterans with enrollment requests.
