The RN functions as the Service Chief for Sterile Processing Service (SPS) at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System and reports to the Associate Director Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive. The Chief, SPS has oversight authority for sterile processing of reusable medical equipment used throughout the medical center, directly or indirectly supervises an assistant service chief, front line supervisors, lead technicians and support staff. The Chief, SPS functions as the business manager for the service. As budget manager he/she will develop and manage an annual business plan and budget, as well as quality indicators for Sterile Processing Service.
Duties include but not limited to:
1. Responsible for reusable medical equipment (RME) wherever reprocessing occurs throughout the facility and affiliated sites. Ensure that the facility's reprocessing of all RME is performed with high reliability according to current manufacturers' instruction, infection control policy and required engineering design of space wherever these processes are performed.
2. Responsible for maintaining an efficient and effective Sterile Processing Program, initiating systematic program reviews and critical evaluations of key RME functions. Establish implementation protocol and design monitoring systems to ensure that any and all individuals charged with reprocessing duties are appropriately trained and competent in performing the assigned tasks.
3. Responsible for developing specific processes and standard operating procedures (SOP) regarding the pre-clean, use and reprocessing of RME are in place for any given piece of equipment. Process and SOP shall strictly conform to the specific manufacturer's instructions, infection control sterilization guidelines, and local guidelines
4. Responsible for developing and implementing a robust quality management program ensuring that appropriate and safe reprocessing is performed.
5. Determine strengths and weakness within the service and develop a business plan and quality indicators that benefits the service and facility. Determines goals and objectives that need additional emphasis and utilizes lean management strategies to improve processes. Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production to improve business expenses. Engage staff in strategic planning to move the department towards improved performance and outcomes.
6. Using excel charts, graphs and power point to communicate information visually. Evaluate past and current budget and project goals that take into account long term financial objectives for Sterile Processing Service. Researches and identifies specific costs associated with various expenses, analyzes budget and anticipates future needs of the service.
7. Analyzes benefits and costs of accomplishing work in- house versus contracting; recommends whether to continue existing contracts and/or solicit for new contracts.
8. Develops and maintains annual overtime budget. Finds and implements ways to improve production or increase the quality of work to maximize the SPS budget.
9. Consistently responds to request for assistance promptly and in a friendly and cooperative manner. Has the ability to influence and motivate various individuals to accept opinions on fundamental goals and objectives when there is intense objection and conflict. Has the ability to exchange information both written and orally in intense negotiations to identify and resolve significant, controversial issues while ensuring that all levels of individuals are able to understand.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 07:30am- 04:00pm (week-ends, shift, on-call and holidays may be required). Will have responsibilities in North Little Rock and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
