Visitor Use Assistants are uniformed employees of the National Park Service and serve as a front-line representative of the agency. The incumbent provides information and assistance to visitors and collects and accounts for fees at entrance stations and campgrounds. The incumbent provides information on the park's recreational opportunities and services, distributes maps and other printed information, and provides directions. Employees are responsible for collecting fees and accounting for all funds collected. The incumbent performs opening and closing shift functions, enters information into an electronic Point of Sale system, issues entrance receipts, park passes, and verifies entrance passes. The incumbent completes shift reports to verify money collected and accountable stock sold from all transactions. The employee safeguards funds collected and accountable stock and may perform other duties associated with the fee collection program such as restocking supplies, performing traffic control, minor maintenance and campground duties.
These are career seasonal positions.
The two North Rim positions will be full time and can expect to work 13 pay periods per year.
The two South Rim positions will be full time and can expect to work 21 pay periods per year.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
Working Conditions: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
Two of these positions are stationed at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, approximately 60 miles north of Williams and 85 miles Northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Temperatures range from approximately 85 degrees in the summer to 17 degrees in the winter. Grand Canyon Village has schools K-12, a daycare center, post office, general store, banking facilities, churches, a recreation center, a clinic with resident physicians and several restaurants. The park community consists of some 2,000 people, including employees of the NPS and concessionaires and their family members. There are often employment opportunities for family members in the park and surrounding areas. The park community is small enough that many employees choose to walk or bike from their homes to work. Complete shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams and Flagstaff. Because of limited housing, when an employees is assigned shared quarters, the park is not able to provide accommodations for family member and pets. Two of these positions are located on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The North Rim receives approximately 500,000 visitors between May 15 and October 15. The North Rim has a robust concession operation which features a historic full service lodge with accommodations serving around 500 visitors each day, 230 concession employees, a general store, post office, mule ride concession, gas station, campground, etc. Outside of the North Rim Village the district includes about 20 miles of paved scenic roads, 80 miles of high clearance 4 wheel drive roads, and many miles of hiking trails. The North Rim District is about 20 miles from the South Rim by a strenuous hike through the Grand Canyon or a 215 mile drive which takes approximately 4 hours. The elevation on the North Rim is about 8,500 feet and consequently the climate in the summer is mild with highs in the 80's and lows in the 50's.
The nearest community with full range of services is located in Kanab, UT which is 80 miles to the North.
