Major duties include, but are not limited to:
- Work as a team member by assisting higher-grade engineers in carrying out selected portions of test and evaluation activities
- Search and review system specifications, resolutions, procedures, and standards to obtain data and information.
- Gather and assemble data in order to set up and conduct tests.
- Attend meeting and conferences regarding assigned tests.
- Apply variety of established engineering practices and standard techniques.
This position is being advertised showing the GS-07 major duties. Duties at the GS-05 are developmental leading to such performance.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-05 Student Trainee (Electronics Engineering) position you must possess the following:
Education:
Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in engineering or a related field.
OR
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-04 or equivalent pay band) in the Federal service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as:
- Collecting electronics testing data; and
- Participating in research.
OR
A combination of education and experience.
To qualify for the GS-07 Student Trainee (Electronics Engineering) position you must possess the following:
Education:
1. One full year of graduate-level education related to engineering
OR
2. Superior Academic Achievement as demonstrated by a bachelor's degree in a curriculum related to engineering from an accredited college or university with one of the following. NOTE It is your responsibility to ensure your application clearly states how you meet one of the provisions below:
- A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher based on a 4.0 scale for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last 2 full years of undergraduate study;
- A GPA of 3.5 or higher based on a 4.0 scale for required courses completed in a major field of study, or those courses completed in a major field of study during the last two years of undergraduate study;
- Class standing of upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision of the college;
- Membership in a national Scholastic Honor Society certified by the Association of College honor Societies, excluding freshman honor societies.
OR
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
- Collecting electronics testing data;
- Drafting reports; and
- Participating in research.
OR
A combination of experience and education.
Education
Definition of Student: Student is defined as an individual currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, or certificate) in a qualifying academic institution, on a half or full-time basis. Half-time is defined by the educational institution in which the student is enrolled. Students do not have to be in actual physical attendance in school, online curriculums are acceptable as long as the school is accredited by the Department of Education.

College Transcript: Applicants must submit a copy of their college transcript that lists college courses, course title, and number of credit hours. PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION: Upon completion Program participants may, at agency discretion, be non-competitively converted without a break in service, to a career or career conditional appointment. There is no guarantee for conversion.
To be eligible for conversion, an Intern or eligible Intern NTE must:
- Be a United States citizen;
- Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Program while enrolled as a half- or full-time degree- or certificate-seeking student;
- Complete a course of academic study, within the preceding 120-day period, at a qualifying educational institution conferring a diploma, certificate or degree;
- Meet the qualification standards for the position to which she or he will be converted;
- Receive a favorable recommendation by an official of the agency or agencies in which she or he served; and
- Meet agency-specific requirements, as specified in the Participant Agreement.
