Duties
As a Student Trainee (Land Survey) you will
- Assist in performing Survey using full filed to finish mode.
- Assist with and/or plan and conduct simple and routine survey or small pieces of large survey projects.
- Prepare draft field notes, plats, reports and other administrative documents that document assigned work.

Qualifications
To be eligible, an applicant must: Be a student who has been accepted for enrollment or is currently enrolled at least half-time in a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) seeking program in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school.Possess a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 or higher.Be at least 18 years of age or older for an arduous or hazardous duty position.In order to assess you meet a qualified status for this position and to refer you to the hiring manager, the agency must be able to determine that you meet the qualifications based on completed education, specialized experience, and/or both - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
Basic Requirements: This position requires applicants to meet a Basic Education Requirement for the 1373 series in addition to at least one year of specialized experience or substitution of education for experience in order to be found minimally qualified. You must mest one of the following basic education requirements:
- have a Bachelor's Degree in land surveying or civil engineering with a surveying option/emphasis. The civil engineering major must have included at least 6 semester hours of surveying, 3 semester hours of land law, and 21 additional semester hours in any combination of the following: surveying, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geodesy, route surveying, remote sensing, cartography, survey astronomy, land information systems, computer-aided mapping, aerial photo interpretation, and survey analysis and adjustments. OR
- have an equivalent combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in land surveying or civil engineering as described in paragraph A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.OR
- have a current registration as a Land Surveyor in a State, territory, or the District of Columbia obtained by written examination. Such registration must have been obtained under conditions outlined in the National Council of Engineering Examiners (NCEE) Unified Model Law of Registration of Surveyors. Applicants wishing to be considered under this provision must show evidence of registration based on successful completion of the written examinations. Registrations granted prior to adoption of a registration law with qualification requirements equivalent to the NCEE Model Law by the State, territory, or District of Columbia are not acceptable under this option. To be considered equivalent to the NCEE Unified Model Law, registration laws must include the four options listed within the NCEE Unified Model Law in the section specifying "General Requirements for Registration" as a Professional Land Surveyor.
You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:

- This position is for students accepted for enrollment or are currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school, on a full- or half-time basis (as defined by the academic institution in which the student is enrolled).
- This is a career development, excepted service appointment under the BLM Pathways Internship Program that is expected to last more than 1 year. The BLM will require the selected applicant to complete a Participant Agreement in which the selectee must provide an anticipated date for completing all degree program requirements, and show continual progression toward meeting the stated anticipated date.
