Duties
Major duties include but not limited to clean and service vault toilets, restrooms, campgrounds, collect trash, roadside pickup, driftwood, and janitorial service at visitor center. Monitors and maintains park water systems. Assists other maintenance crew on projects and routine tasks. Performs minor carpentry repairs, plumbing repairs, painting/staining and grounds cleaning.
Physical Demands: Work of the position is arduous. You will be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, bend, climb or work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for much of the day. You will be required to frequently lift and carry equipment, supplies, filled garbage bags, etc. weighing up to 40 pounds, and heavier weights occasionally.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. You will be exposed to chemicals, dirt, spray and fumes both inside and out. Outside work will occur in all weather conditions include heat and humidity, cold, rain, snow, ice, and wind. You may be exposed to poisonous plants, and swarms of biting or stinging insects such as mosquitoes, black flies, ticks, wasps, and spiders. In some working conditions, you will be required to wear protective equipment and clothing which is heavy and uncomfortable.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April through September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on the south shore of Lake Superior between the communities of Munising (population 2,500) and Grand Marais. The duty station for these positions are at Munising, MI. Government housing may be available for rent. Amenities in Munising include basic shopping, medical facilities, and K-12 schools. Summers are generally warm and pleasant. The winter season may extend from October to May and is often characterized by sub-zero temperatures and seasonal snowfall in excess of 140 inches.
