The incumbent of this position serves as an Intern under the Pathways Program. You will be responsible for the following duties:
Responds to requests for support by interfacing via telephone, email and in-person with investigators needing database queries, spreadsheets and similar administrative tasks. Works with technical experts to ensure the timeliness of the investigative activity.
Analyzes computerized data for internal and external statistical reporting. Conducts official record checks involving querying law enforcement, public records, commercial and Department of Transportation computerized records-keeping systems and databases.
Maintains and updates computerized databases including entering data into and querying the investigative case management system (ICMS) for HQOPS and other investigative offices on all investigations including documenting arrests; indictments; convictions; and other judicial, civil and administrative actions, investigative techniques and other reportable actions that occur during investigations.
Receives, sorts, and routes incoming mail and correspondence to staff. Coordinates the distribution of materials, reports and other information.
Makes electronic versions of paper documents (creates PDF files) and stores and organizes electronic documents into searchable formats.
Sends, receives, and distributes electronic mail and telephonic facsimile (FAX) documents. Operates office photocopiers and facsimile.
Upload into ICMS daily incoming national hotline system (NHS) reports, incoming correspondence, and assists the Senior Investigator assigned to the daily review of NHS reports.
Assists in recommending and developing investigative leads for case agents by data mining, for example, CLEAR and FINCEN reports, telephone records, social media outlets, and other sources of information.
With support, conducts computerized link analyses, and otherwise assists in the preparation of detailed investigative reports of findings to include quantitative and graphical representation of suspected wrongdoing.
Collects background information and financial reviews of subjects on behalf of case agents. Obtains and reviews other government and law enforcement agencies' investigative reports that relate to open investigations or projects.
Works with regional and headquarters based agents and investigators to assist in the timely reporting (within 24 hours) of significant events (safety-related events, enforcement actions, congressional inquiries, etc.) and their impacts.
Assists the SAC with the overall administration of HQOPS and field offices, including development of budgetary plans and coordination of procurement activities. Reviews and examines office administrative files to ensure all relevant documentation is properly filed and assembled in accordance with the applicable policies, procedures and regulations. Performs other administrative duties as required to assist, as directed, in the overall management of DOT/OIG.
Assembles and maintains case files and ensures all relevant evidence and documentation is properly titled and assembled in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and regulations.
Prepares grammatically correct, well-organized, complete, concise, and accurate written materials.
Compiles statistical and other data from ICMS and/or other sources to assist senior management in the evaluation of and ensuring the proper allocation of investigative resources consistent with organizational goals. Compiles data from the ICMS for testimony and compiles reports on case related topics for leadership’s use in evaluating organizational fitness and for high-level briefings.
Utilizes OIG procured data analytics software to prevent and detect fraud in DOT programs.
Coordinates with the OIG Office of Training and Development to ensure Office of Investigations employees are scheduled for and receive the appropriate training classes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
You must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year college or university, or graduate or professional school; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on at least a half-time basis.
Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or greater. (G.P.A.'s are rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.45 rounds to 2.5 and 2.44 rounds to 2.4).
You must be enrolled through the Fall 2020 semester and not expect to graduate prior to.
