This position is located in the Office of Media Relations (OMR), Office of the Director. OMR’s primary role is to provide information to the press and public about Commission affair. The primary objectives of the Office are to maximize media understanding of Commission activities and to encourage and facilitate media dissemination of Commission announcements, orders and other information; to manage the FCC's Internet site, social media presence, and oversee the agency's web standards and guidelines; manage the room and equipment of the Commission Meeting Room, and to manage the audio and video support services for the Commission.
Serving as Deputy Director for the Office of Media Relations, the incumbent shares responsibility with the Director in carrying out the administrative, operational, and executive responsibilities of the program. These responsibilities include planning, directing, and coordinating all phases of the work of the office in the functional area of operation management, administrative direction, and the organization and coordination of press relations for the agency.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 in the Federal service. For this position, specialized experience includes the following: developing strategic communication plans for an organization; serving as a media spokesperson for an organization; conceptualizing and preparing innovative approaches to communicate an organization’s programs, activities, mission and goals; leading specialized public affairs projects or outreach programs for an organization; writing press releases and developing messaging documents; interfacing with reporters to explain complex policies; drafting content for social media; and providing authoritative technical advice to senior management on media and public affairs issues.
