Duties
Employees in the Mount Rainier NP vegetation restoration crew perform integral conservation and management work: planting and restoring areas of subalpine meadows and forests damaged by human activity and managing noxious weed species. This is primarily a field job, with approximately 80% being strenuous outdoor activity and 20% sedentary office work. Field work may occur in forest or subalpine habitat at elevations ranging from 1700' to 6800' in elevation. All work is performed with a team and employees are expected to be respectful of one another and create an inclusive and welcoming working environment. Crew members will perform the following activities:
- Implement the park's program to control introduced, noxious weeds by using chemical and manual treatment methods, following established protocols and priorities. Most noxious weed control work occurs in the park's developed areas and roadsides. Less prevalent populations along trails and in backcountry areas are also treated..
- Implement the park's program to restore native plant communities where recreation- or construction-related activities have damaged vegetation, using established protocols for plant handling, transport, installation, and watering. Most revegetation work occurs in subalpine habitat accessed by trail.
- Gather, collate, and enter data into a computer using relational databases, including geodatabases, and assist in analyzing, mapping, and preparing written progress reports.
- Assist in qualitative or quantitative monitoring of revegetation or noxious weed treatment locations or plots.

Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours in a service year may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement may be eligible for the possibility of extensions or rehire in subsequent service years.
Physical Demands: The work is field based and involves prolonged standing, walking, kneeling, and bending. Work frequently involves hiking over rough terrain and lifting and carrying 50-lb loads or pushing wheelbarrow loads up to 120 lbs, at elevations up to 6800 feet.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in the field and in the office. Field work occurs in forest and subalpine habitat, along trails and roadsides and in developed areas, at elevations ranging from 1700' to 6800'. Work occurs in extreme weather conditions and terrain, and employees are potentially exposed to herbicides, passing vehicles, plant irritants, biting insects, and wild animals. Office work generally involves paperwork, computer data entry, meetings, and other sedentary activities.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.

Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Effective May 26, 2018, please note that a temporary seasonal employee can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of 1,039 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Required Documents
The following documents are required and must be submitted by 11:59 PM EST on the 'applicant cut-off' date (which may be sooner than 12/08/2019):
- Resume which includes a list of all significant jobs held and duties performed, with dates specified in month and year format, and, indicate hours worked per week. If military or civilian (current or former), please include your rank and/or grade.
- A complete Occupational Questionnaire
- Documentation that you meet Selective Factors
- College transcripts, if qualifying based on education
- Other Supporting Documents, if applicable, such as:
- Veterans Preference Documentation:
- If you are a Discharged, Non-Disabled Veteran, you must submit a copy of your DD-214 showing character of discharge (Member 4 copy), or other Documentation of Service and Separation under Honorable Conditions, as listed on the SF15. If you don't have your DD-214, you may request it after discharge from the National Archives.
- If you are a veteran within 120 days of discharge, you must submit signed documentation from the Armed Forces certifying: 1) your expected release/retirement from active duty, 2) under honorable conditions, 3) your pay grade/rank/rate at time of discharge, 4) dates of active duty service, 5) any campaign or expeditionary medals received, & 6) dated within 120 days of your separation.
- If you are a Disabled Veteran, Purple Heart Recipient, or Mother or Spouse of a Disabled or Deceased Veteran, you must submit all additional proof required by the SF15, and if applicable, a completed SF15. You may request a copy of your Department of Veterans Affairs letter from www.ebenefits.va.gov or call 1-800-827-1000 to establish proof of disability.
- Veterans Preference Documentation:
- Documentation for Interagency/Career Transition Assistance Plan consideration if you are a displaced Federal employee within the local commuting area. You must include: 1) Proof you are a displaced Federal employee, e.g., RIF Separation Notice, Notice of Proposed Removal, etc; 2) SF-50s (Notifications of Personnel Action) showing career/conditional tenure competitive status, promotion potential and duty location; and 3) your most recent performance appraisal. To exercise selection priority, displaced or surplus Federal employees must be rated well-qualified or above 85 on the rating criteria for this position.
