BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Basic Requirements: This position has a positive education requirement which requires you to have one of the following;
A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (1) Professional registration; (2) Written test - evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer in Training exam or the written test required for professional registration; (3) Specified academic courses - successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A; or (4) Related curriculum - successful completion of curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, provided the applicant has at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
Education Requirement: You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades.
Specialized Experience:
In addition to meeting the basic entry requirement, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education of the position to be found qualified. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade. To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, 1 year of creditable specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 is required. Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to: providing professional engineering services related to mechanical engineering; developing engineering designs, drawings, technical manuals, or other technical materials in the performance of mechanical engineering project work; reviewing test documentation and technical /engineering documentation to verify technical accuracy; performing as a Project Inspector or Contract Manager for construction projects; and/or designing or manufacturing mechanical devices and systems (e.g., HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and site utility systems) and their equipment or components.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-12 and above grade levels.
