Duties
- Perform mature tree pruning, hazard reduction pruning and vista pruning.
- Perform rigging and removal techniques in topping, sectioning, lifting of large or technical trees.
- Use tools and equipment such as chainsaws, stump grinders, brush chippers, aerial platforms and spray equipment to perform all facts of tree maintenance work.
- Use industry standard climbing methods in scaling trees, such as ladders and safety ropes.
- Operate a crane to remove trees and limbs as well and maneuver large trees for planting.
- Operate equipment such as a stump grinder, brush chipper and/or wood chipper.
- Operate various motorized heavy equipment (e.g. winch, chipper, stake body, aerial lift, crew cab and heavy duty forklifts).
- Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections for: pick up trucks, winch trucks, chipper trucks, crane trucks, stakebody trucks, dump trucks, aerial lift trucks, crew cab trucks and heavy duty forklifts.
- Climb trees up to 120 feet.
- Incorporate the techniques of Integrated Pest Management (cultural, mechanical, biological and chemical) to control pest problems.
- Inspect, diagnose and identify hazardous trees for annual tree condition assessment and corrective action determinations.

- You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- You must possess and maintain a current Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You will be required to complete a one-year trial period.
- Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Physical Demands: The incumbent frequently carries and/or moves objects of various sizes and shapes, up to 100 pounds, with assistance as required. Incumbent is required to climb and work from rope rigging ladders, and lift mechanisms. Work requires walking, climbing, bending and standing for extended periods of time. The incumbent may be required to work in cramped areas and awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work inside and outside in all types of weather and is subject to discomfort from heat, humidity and cold. The incumbent's clothing may become soiled from chemicals, dirt and medium generated from the tree pruning or removal process. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, burns and broken bones. The incumbent is subject to noxious fumes, dust and residue from the use of power tools and chemical sprays. The incumbent is required to wear protective equipment and clothing and may experience discomfort while wearing protective equipment and clothing. The incumbent adheres to safety regulations and standards as set by OSHA.
