This position has been approved for a recruitment incentive of $10,000. The selectee will be required to agree to a two-year service agreement prior to appointment to be eligible for this incentive. Payment will be distributed in two installments, with $5,000 upon appointment, and $5,000 distributed one year later. Early termination of the agreement will result in the employee re-paying a pro-rated portion of the incentive.
This agreement will be terminated if the selectee is demoted or separated for cause, i.e., performance or conduct OR if the employee fails to uphold a condition of employment as stated in this announcement (i. e. licensing requirements, background investigation clearance, etc.). The cash incentive is subject to tax and other withholding.
Duties:
-Will be the Responsible Operator of Record with the State of Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) in the Hudson Bay District of Glacier National Park.
- Coordinate daily operations for the Hudson Bay utility district crew.
- Will lead six other employees in the operation and maintenance of numerous water and wastewater systems in Hudson Bay District of Glacier National Park.
- Creates operations and maintenance schedule, including performing inspections and repairing mechanical equipment.
- Tabulate and report data to Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and USEPA for seven public water systems and two "permitted" wastewater treatment facilities.
Housing is available in St. Mary, but on a limited basis.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
Physical Demands: The physical effort requirements range from sedentary office work to strenuous fieldwork. Must be capable of lifting and handling loads and objects up to 50 pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance on a regular basis. Regularly performs work requiring frequent lifting, reaching, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, standing, kneeling, pulling, pushing and working in cramped, uncomfortable spaces. Must meet physical requirements to use personal protective equipment when required.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is exposed to adverse temperature and weather conditions; snow, ice, rain and high velocity wind. Temperature range is from -30 to +90° F and can fluctuate as much as 60 to 90°F in one 24-hour period. Required to wear personal protective equipment such as respirators, HAZMAT suits, hearing protection, clothing and eye protection. Works in close proximity to moving equipment and vehicles. Is exposed to mechanical noises, wastewater, sludge, chemicals associated with water and wastewater treatment and purification, electrical shock, vibrations, gases and fumes and dangerous wildlife. Exposed to dust, grease and soiling of clothing and skin surfaces.
Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
