The incumbent provides front line information and interpretive services for visitors to the park. Operates park visitor center, answering questions and orients visitors to the park and surrounding areas. Provides interpretive and environmental education to park visitors and students through leading guided tours or presenting programs about the site. Provides roving interpretation of the park grounds/site. Assist with sales of bookstore items. Assist in preparing interpretive, educational and informational media, i.e publications, brochures,website and social media platforms.

Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

Physical Demands: The work requires standing for long periods of time, walking for long distances, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

Fort Scott NHS-Fort Scott, population 8000, is located in the southeastern corner of Kansas. The town offers basic shopping and groceries, a large hospital, several medical and dental clinics, public and private primary and secondary schools and a community college. Kansas City is 90 miles north with an abundance of shopping, entertainment and cultural activity opportunities. There is a variety of housing available in Fort Scott and the surrounding communities for rent or purchase. Government housing is not available.
Herbert Hoover NHS-Herbert Hoover National Historic Site is located in West Branch, Iowa (population 2300). Schools (K-12), churches, medical care, and groceries are available in West Branch. Iowa City (population 70,000) is located 10 miles west. Housing in West Branch is available, but limited. Housing in Iowa City is plentiful and moderately priced for purchase, but rental property can be limited. Park housing may be available.
