The area of consideration for the detail is current federal employees in the competitive service with career or career conditional appointments only. This is a non-reimbursable Detail and will not result in a promotion or a full-time permanent position.
Training assignments may include review and exposure to fictitious data collected from a variety of cyber defense tools (e.g., intrusion detection systems, alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs) to analyze events that occur within the environments for the purposes of mitigating threats.
Complete a multi-layered training curriculum over three months. The curriculum begins with a "cyber-essentials" course that includes up to 120 hours of modules, labs, and quizzes. The curriculum begins with a cyber-essentials course that begins with an onsite workshop, followed by four weeks of follow-on learning, exercises, and exams. Students then attend a "bootcamp" course live for six full days, followed by two weeks of study and a certification exam. The final course is another "bootcamp," followed by additional study and a final certification exam. Students who successfully pass the certification exam move on to the final course, which follows a similar timeline.
Complete extracurricular activities and exercises to enhance learning and skills development, such as online programs, cyber competitions, and more to enhance their learning and skills development.
Receive career mentorship and soft skills guidance to help strengthen candidates backgrounds in the cybersecurity field.
The program accounts for roughly 3 weeks of in class training in DC. The 3 weeks are incremental. Your current home agency would have to agree to cover all costs associated with the program including paying your salary and travel expenses for the 3 months while on the detail.

The Federal Cybersecurity Reskilling Academy (Academy) is a training development program headed by the Office of Management and Budget, CIO Council and the Department of Education.
The Academy is an accelerated cybersecurity training pilot program aimed at identifying high-potential talent and growing the nation's cybersecurity workforce. This reskilling effort is part of the Administration's commitment to developing a Federal workforce for the 21st century, as outlined in the President's Management Agenda and the recent Government Reform Plan. The CIO Council supports goals of greater transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in Federal government through the use of innovative IT strategies. The CIO Council works to ensure information security, protect individual privacy, and save taxpayer dollars by creating a Federal government that strategically, efficiently, and effectively uses IT to serve and protect U.S. citizens. The Academy will provide participants foundational skills for cybersecurity work.
