This position is located in the Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of African American History and Culture. The employee works with members the Smith Funds Community Curation Program team and the museum’s Web and Emerging Media team to develop high-quality content for the online Community Curation Platform and across a variety of other museum digital platforms and channels. The Digital Content Producer will be responsible for increasing the reach and impact of the Smith Fund’s online community programs.

The Community Curation Program (CCP) is a new initiative supported by the Robert Frederick Smith Explore Your Family History Center. The program's goal is to bridge the generational divide in African American communities by bringing access to online services that support the digitization, preservation and sharing of stories by and for the community.

Help

Collaborates with the Smith Fund Program Manager, the web and emerging media, curatorial, conservation and digitization, education, and public affairs teams to identify, select, and edit community contributed and strategic partner content suitable for publishing to the Community Curation online platform and the Smith Fund’s other digital platforms and channels.
Researches and collaborates with partners in select cities and regions to produce, edit, and publish new digital content for the Community Curation Platform as well as the museum’s supporting digital platforms and channels.
Selects appropriate online community contributed stories, objects, and collections for the Community Curation online platform.
Creates, edits, and publishes content in adherence with all established NMAAHC editorial procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
Creates original digital content suitable for publishing to the Community Curation online platform and all NMAAHC digital channels and platforms. Content is informative, educational, entertaining, and engaging, while supporting the missions, goals and visions of the Smith Fund, NMAAHC, and the Smithsonian Institution.
Coordinates with the Smith Fund Program Manager, Chief Digital Officer, curatorial, education, and public affairs teams to build an effective digital content strategy for the Community Curation online platform.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as working as a writer, editor, and producer of multimedia content for multiple online channels for or about African American audiences, constituencies, or communities.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Or Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related may be substituted for the required experience.

Or a Combination: Education and experience may be combined to meet the basic qualifications; for example, a half year of experience and a half year of education in the field may be qualifying.
