The Mann Grandstaff Va Medical Center is currently recruiting for two Gastroenterologists, who treats patients in an outpatient clinic and performs inpatient consultations. Some of the duties include (but not limited to):
Perform initial histories and physical examinations.
Provide preventive health care screening.
Screen patients to determine their need for further diagnostic or therapeutic care and follow up.
Order lab tests, x-rays and other appropriate non-invasive diagnostic tests, subject to the review of the physician.
Write evaluations and progress notes on patients, both for the initial and follow up visits in the patient's record.
Implementing diagnostic evaluations and therapeutic regimens.
Perform diagnostic gastroscopy, fiber optic sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy.
Referral to other medical subspecialties with approval of the responsible physician.
Observe and record patient's medical progress, updating and summarizing medical records, changing orders when appropriate.
Provide education and counseling of the patient and the patient's family in preventive care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments and medications.
Initiate appropriate consults to other services to include Care in the Community consults.
Participation in special projects pertinent to assigned sub-specialty may be necessary as the projects become available with strategic or other initiatives.
Provide clinical oversight and collaborate with advanced practitioners.
When working with inpatients provider is expected to participate in discharge planning and other interdisciplinary patient care plan activities.
Physician will have responsibilities for teaching house staff, medical residents and students.
EGD and colonoscopy - both screening/diagnostic, paracentesis, etc.
Miscellaneous Duties - teaching/lecture presentations to staff, students, resident's trainees; conduct peer reviews, chart reviews, evaluations as outlined by the service.
Administrative Duties:
Participate in the educational programs for the ICU unit personnel as well as the medical staff.
Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care.
Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization.
Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
Attend Medical Service/Staff meetings.
Complete medical records and consultations in accordance with VHA Directives and local policies.
Participate in committee assignments.
Perform other duties assigned by the Chief of Medicine and/or Chief of Staff.
Work Schedule: Position 1: Monday -Thursday 7:30am - 5:30pm; Position 2: Tuesday - Friday 7:30am - 5:30pm

Physical Requirements: The Gastroenterologist must be physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the position including examinations, formulating diagnoses and treatment plans, and educating residents. Physical activities include sitting, standing (up to 4 hours), walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or more), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. The incumbent must be emotionally and mentally stable. Must pass pre-employment physical.
