This position supervises the park's public affairs staff, assisting in the management of all media interactions and public relations regarding the National Park Service at Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The incumbent will work directly with news reporters, fielding questions and preparing briefing statements for the media (Also includes use of Twitter, Facebook, & Instagram). The incumbent will also assist the Office of the Superintendent with briefings of elected officials, city and county officials, program leads and interface with special interests groups. In addition, this position will be responsible for drafting, editing and ensuring delivery of controlled correspondence to elected officials and the public. The incumbent will coordinate with a variety of park partners and other special interests groups including, but not limited to, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, the Presidio Trust, and an assortment of park partner groups. The incumbent will oversee the park's management of Freedom of Information Act and deal directly with the park's complex Emergency Services Divisions (U.S. Park Police and NPS Park Ranger Visitor and Resource Protection Division) and associated agencies related to local, State, and Federal Search and Rescue and law enforcement incidents.
The incumbent will help to develop communications plans and strategies that guide various announcements coordinated by the Office of the Superintendent. He or she will write, edit and review a wide variety of informational materials, such as news releases, fact sheets, talking points, briefing statements and other documents, ensuring written content is concise, clearly presented, accurate and reflects official policies. The incumbent may be asked to develop strategic communication plans as well as design communication tools such as: web pages, social media content, graphics, power point presentations, short video scripts, publications, and presentation materials that support the communications plans developed by the office. These products will be used by a variety of audiences to promote Golden Gate National Recreation Area's communication plan.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary in nature; however some duties will require periodic outdoor work and/or incident assignments which may require rigorous physical activity such as walking, hiking in rough terrain, working in cramped positions, and exposure to heat, cold, and lifting. Both indoor and outdoor duties may necessitate long hours of duty, periods of intense concentration, and the ability to work effectively in a highly stressful environment. Occasional trave] and field trips are required.
Working Conditions: Most of the work will be performed in an office setting with occasional travel to attend meetings, workshops, and conferences. Field assignments will involve dust, smoke, heat, cold, extreme weather, and marine/ocean conditions.
Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
