Summary
The National Defense University is recruiting for a Wargaming Assistant for the Center for Applied Strategic Learning (CASL) with the responsibility of supporting the development of challenging, dynamic, engaging exercises and games that support the education goals of Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) at the University. The Wargaming Assistant will research, design, develop, and implement experiential learning initiatives including national-level educational exercises, simulations, and workshops.
The Office of Academic Affairs ensures high quality and rigorous academic programs, making use of best practices to support joint education, leader development, and scholarship. The Office of Academic facilitates institutional research, evidence-based decisions, continuous institutional and academic assessment, evaluation, planning, improvement, effectiveness, enrollment management, registration and other services in support of the academic mission of NDU.
NDU develops joint warfighters and other national security leaders through rigorous academics, research and engagement to serve the common defense.
This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 3 years with the possibility for extension. Duties
- Conducts research and analysis focused on the development of national security exercises concerning a wide range of domestic and international challenges.
- Assists CASL teams that are developing and implementing national and homeland security exercises and other experiential learning activities, with a particular emphasis on subjects related to stability operations, defense resourcing, transregional multi-domain subjects.
- Participates in exercise execution and facilitation for academic and outreach populations.
- Identifies emerging national security issues within specific subject areas and represents CASL in interactions with U.S. Military Senior Service Colleges and/or their wargaming centers.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must:
Have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent) in political science, history, international relations, economics, or other appropriate discipline.
Have experience conducting research, academic witting, and performing teaching tasks, particularly in the fields of international relations and national/homeland security. An accredited Master's degree in a relevant field of study may substitute for professional experience.
Have experience relevant to planning academic-oriented programs and events, working with program stakeholders/clients to ensure the project meets the desired outcomes.
Have demonstrated experience supporting the hosting of special events, conferences, or workshops in support of academic curricula.
Have experience, education, and training in facilitating or leading group discussion, working groups or multifunctional/organizational committees.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
