The Office of Management of Budget is a component within the Executive Office of the President that helps Federal departments and agencies implement the commitments and priorities of the President. As the implementation and oversight arm of government-wide policy, OMB carries out its mission through five critical processes that are essential to the implementation of Presidential priorities: (1) Budget development and execution; a significant government-wide process managed from OMB and a mechanism by which a President implements decisions, policies, priorities, and actions in all areas; (2) Management - oversight of agency performance, Federal procurement, financial management, and information/IT; (3) Coordination and review of all significant Federal regulations by executive agencies, to reflect Presidential priorities and to ensure that economic and other impacts are assessed as part of regulatory decision-making, along with review and assessment of information collection requests; (4) Legislative clearance and coordination (review and clearance of all agency communications with Congress, including testimony and draft bills) to ensure consistency of agency legislative views and proposals with Presidential policy; and (5) Executive Orders and Presidential Memoranda to agency heads and officials, the mechanisms by which the President directs specific government-wide actions by Executive Branch officials.

The Economic Policy Division in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is an advisory unit with about six Ph.D. economists. Together, we provide expertise across many fields, including tax, labor, education, finance, and macroeconomics. We work with other components within OMB and the Executive Office of the President on developing policy proposals, estimating budgetary costs, and responding to other requests from leadership. We report to the Chief Economist of OMB and have numerous interactions with the Director's Office.

This position is located in the Executive Office of the President (EOP), Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Economic Policy Division. This Division is responsible for economic research and participates in a wide range of cross-cutting economic studies. The Division includes economists specializing in a variety of fields.
The focus of this position is in macroeconomics and/or finance, with some portion of work likely in other fields of economics as needed.

1.Successful completion of two or more full academic years' worth of coursework in economics and econometric methods taught at a sufficiently advanced and mathematically intensive level that the curriculum relied on and required knowledge of linear (matrix) algebra and multivariate calculus combined with successful production of two or more "peer reviewed" research papers (journal or book article) or Ph.D. dissertation chapters applying econometric and statistical methods to the study of economic phenomena. These research papers should demonstrate the successful use of one or more of the following statistical software packages: SAS, Stata, Matlab, R, C++, Gauss, LIMDEP, RATS and/or Python.
