Incumbent works for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, located on the shore of the Lower Columbia River, ten miles downstream from the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area. The refuge was established along with three other refuges in the Lower Columbia River of Washington (Pierce, Franz Lake, and Steigerwald Lake) to secure vital winter habitat for Dusky Canada geese, stately sandhill cranes, and other wintering waterfowl. The 5,217 acre refuge contains a mosaic of riverine flood plain habitat, intensively managed seasonal and permanent wetlands, and agricultural lands. Shorebirds, and a great variety of songbirds stop at the refuge during spring and fall migrations. Ridgefield Refuge contains the historic Cathlapotle town site, which was visited by the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1806, and is one of the best-preserved Native American sites in the Northwest United States today.
The Intern Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. The Intern will provide office automation and clerical support duties for the supervisor and the staff of the office assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
In addition to the student enrollment requirements of this position, you must meet one of the minimum qualifications below in order to be considered.
a. Possess at least one year of general experience in progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the office automation and clerical support knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position.
b. Possess at least 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.

- For a certificate program to be eligible under Pathways, it must be equivalent to at least one academic year of study.
