The Chief of Staff is a full time position that reports to the Assistant Secretary and Chief Information Officer (AS/IT), Office of Information and Technology. This is a position of trust and serves as a confidant to the AS/IT. The incumbent provides senior technical advisory services and assistance in the overall management of the AS/IT's office activities, with responsibility advising on, planning and implementing a variety of executive and policy-related activities in support of the various projects of the AS/IT. The incumbent oversees daily operations of the AS/IT front office staff, including administrative staff.

The Chief of Staff is responsible to the Assistant Secretary and Chief Information Officer (AS/IT) for the Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) and plays a key management role within OI&T with responsibility for monitoring issues and for developing and presenting information and technical guidance to effect open communication, coordinated efforts, and the establishment of comprehensive practices and basic policies controlling Department-wide activities to improve the services that VA provides to Veterans and their families. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Represents the AS/IT in a wide range of matters, including consideration or implementation of policies, practices, or other operational and management activities.
-Coordinates such with Deputy Assistant Secretaries and other appropriate officials.
-Coordinates office activities with top management of the Department, and other elements including other agencies in the executive branch. Is authorized to speak for and commit the Assistant Secretary to courses of action within established policy.
-Participates in and provides technical advice on all phases of organization and management matters, including organizational redesign and impacts associated with legislative and regulatory changes and management requirements. Develops, recommends and implements efficient general management and administrative practices for the AS/IT.
-Prepares policy drafts for coordination and approval. Based on studies, laws, regulations, and organizational needs, develops, recommends, advises on, and implements organizational policy to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness throughout OI&T.
Applicants must have one or more years of specialized experience related to this position. Specialized experience providing technical direction, and monitoring of critical enterprise level national projects reviewing program documents; implementing policy guidance; analysis of current and project program requirements and budget constraints.
