This Park Ranger (Visitor Services Technician) position is located within the Everglades Headwaters National Wildlife Refuge Complex in Vero Beach, Florida.
These positions are being filled under the Pathway's Internship Program. Appointments may be extended based on continued need/funds and the student's continued eligibility in the Pathways Internship Program. This position may be converted non-competitively from the Pathways Program to a term or permanent position in the competitive service provided that all educational & program requirements for that position are met and there is an available position. Conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed. U.S. citizenship is required to be eligible for conversion.

What are the Pathways eligibility requirements?
In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Internship Program:

The employee selected will be required to work a non-standard tour of duty that may include weekends, holidays, and night shifts.

The incumbent will be required to obtain and wear an official U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service uniform.
Incumbent must be able to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle. A valid state driver's license is required.
Must be able to frequently lift and carry parts and equipment weighing up to 15 pounds and occasionally over 35 pounds.
This positions sensitivity level has been designated as non-sensitive. Accordingly, the selectee must undergo a background investigation prior to appointment.

Minimum Qualification for the 0025 Occupational Series at the GS-4 grade level:
At least 6 months of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of at least the GS-3 grade level in the Federal service, which could have been obtained in the private or public sectors. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to: park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; work in a park, recreation or conservation area; management, assistant or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; AND at least 6 months of general experience. Examples of qualifying general experience include, but are not limited to: experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public. Experience in substantive and relevant secretarial, clerical, or trades and crafts work is also qualifying if pertinent to the position to be filled. Experience of a routine nature, such as typing, filing, maintaining records, or other non-specialized tasks is not qualifying.

Completion of 2 years of study above high school with 12 semester hours related to the occupation: Related fields of study include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

An equivalent combination of specialized experience and education which together equals 100% of the requirements. To combine education and experience, determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for this grade level. For example, I have 6 months of specialized experience such as described in A above, (50% of the required specialized experience) and I have 60 semester credits of appropriate education (50% of the education as in B above).
