Summary

You will serve as a PHYSICAL THERAPIST supporting the STRIKE program with FRP, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group TWO at Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit EIGHT in Rota, Spain.


The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

Duties

Help
  • You will Develop new policies and regulations for the administration of all STRIKE programs, curriculum, and services.
  • You will perform a wide range of complex physical therapy duties requiring a mastery level practical knowledge of physical therapy, evidence-based medicine, and data collection.
  • You will bridge and facilitate across STRIKE and Joint Force medical to develop new approaches to complex medical situations that may not be susceptible to treatment by current practices.
  • You will perform supplemental privileges of advanced trigger point dry needling, ordering advanced imaging, joint manipulation, limited medicine ordering, and referral to appropriate specialists.
  • You will apply new and developing methodologies as solutions to complex multifactorial problems resistant to traditional rehabilitation approaches.
  • You will provide technical supervision of, oversight of, and collaboration with the Sports Medicine Rehabilitation staff.
  • You will design treatment plans to meet patient/clinical objectives to maximize restoration of physical and functional capabilities.
  • You will develop protocols and standard operating procedures (SOP) for Sports Medicine departments.
  • You will analyze and initiates program development and EODMU 8 program guidance as needed to ensure consistency and practice standardization across the program.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A graduate or higher-level degree that included:

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy(external link) (FSBPT).

NOTE: Applicants who have completed an approved graduate level curriculum and who subsequently completed additional graduate training in a specialized field of clinical practice designed to assure professional competence to practice in the specialty meet the requirements for GS-11. EXPERIENCE:

In addition to the Basic Requirements stated above, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:
  • Performing a wide range of complex physical therapy duties requiring a mastery level practical knowledge of physical therapy, evidence-based medicine, and data collection.
  • Developing and implementing complex, goal-oriented treatment plans for patients presenting with a multiplicity of dysfunction and impairments in physical, functional and adaptive areas.
  • Applying new and developing methodologies as solutions to complex multifactorial problems resistant to traditional rehabilitation approaches.
  • Designing treatment plans to meet patient/clinical objectives to maximize restoration of physical and functional capabilities.
  • Developing and updating performance standards.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS / CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1. Master's degree from an accredited university program in Physical Therapy.
2. Certified by American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as an Orthopedic
Clinical Specialist (OCS) with a minimum of three (3) years of practicing OCS
experience.
3. Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience administering physical therapy
interventions to Special Operations personnel, Division 1 collegiate athletes, Olympic
athletes and/or professional athletes.
4. Certified by National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as Strength and
Conditioning Specialist with a minimum of 3 years of experience working with Special
Operations personnel, Division 1 collegiate athletes, Olympic athletes and/or professional
athletes.
5. Certified Advanced Dry Needling Provider.
6. Certified Blood Flow Restriction Provider.
7. EXOS Performance Specialist or Performance Enhancement Specialist.
8. Certified by American Physical Therapy Association as Credentialed Clinical Instructor.
9. A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist
from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory
of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination
administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.
10. Occasional travel is required to include the OCONUS EODGRU ONE and TWO units at
least once per year. Duration of travel will usually be seven to fourteen (7-14) days per
trip.
11. Participates in continuing education seminars, workshops, and lectures to update
knowledge of current treatments and technologies, fitness and exercise concepts and
maintain required certifications.


DESIRED:
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
