The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will report to the Chief Surgical Service/Section Chief of Urology . She/he applies specialized clinical nursing knowledge and skills to patient care as well as the improvement of the quality of care provided by others. The NP provides a unique approach to healthcare that allows the incorporation of traditional nursing skills as well as advanced practice skills in the care of patients ranging from young adulthood to geriatrics. These skills enable the NP to anticipate and implement preventive health measures with a strong emphasis on patient/significant other/family education as well as illness management of primary care/specialty care. The NP incorporates patient age, gender culture and learning abilities in the plan of care. The unit or section description and patient population served is as defined in applicable Scope of Service. The NP executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care. The NP may function in a variety of roles including patient advocate, consultant, leader, educator, administrator, researcher, and/or clinical care expert. This nurse works effectively with all levels of staff, to include collaborative efforts with other health professionals. The NP collaborates with other disciplines to develop, implement, and coordinate a system of patient care delivery that effects achievement of quality care, patient satisfaction, positive outcomes, appropriate utilization of resources and cost-efficient services. The NP collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, in the inpatient and outpatient settings to identify VA, and community resources and programs which address inpatient and discharge planning needs for patients. The NP initiates interdisciplinary projects to improve organizational performance and participates in the Performance Improvement Process for related programs. Precepts and mentors' students and other nursing staff. The NP Professional Leader will maintain oversight and responsibility for their professional practice issues, including appropriate licensure and certification. Respond to Consults. Order any diagnostics related to consults.
1. Provides care to patients demonstrating advanced assessment and decision making.
2. Assists with the development of philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures and mission of the Healthcare System.
3. Demonstrates problem solving, decision-making, and change process and conflict resolution in matters related to clinical practice issues and management of the clinical practice area.
4. Documents care/visit in CPRS appropriately, accurately, and concisely.
5. Consistently examines and evaluates clinical practice and patient effectiveness designed to increase personal competence and advanced patient care.
6. Expected outcomes are identified with consideration of current scientific and practice knowledge.
7. Evaluates and intervenes in moral, legal, and ethical issues in practice.
8. Identifies and effectively resolves patient risk management issues.
9. Assures the implementation of Patients' Rights and standards.
10. Maintains an ethical nursing practice.
11. Serves as a patient advocate.
12. Actively participates with patients in completing advance directives.
13. Reviews resource utilization in the work setting.
14. Maintains workload review data.
15. Analyzes workload for decision-making.
16. Identifies and documents appropriate ICD and CPT coding for each patient encounter.
17. Demonstrates consideration of costs and benefits in the selection of resources/services/products for clients.

Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
