The Housekeeping Aid Leader position is located at Hines VA Hospital in the Environmental Management Section of the Environmental Management Service Line and performs leader duties for the Housekeeping staff.
- Pass on instructions to other workers and get work started.
- Work alongside others setting the pace.
- Demonstrate proper work methods; ensure necessary plans, materials, and tools are available, and needed stock is obtained.
- Obtain needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the word.
- Maintain current knowledge, and answer other workers questions on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives.
- Ensure there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy providing new and additional assignments as needed.
- Check work in progress and when finished.
- Encourage workers follow instructions received from supervisors, and meet deadlines.
- Ensure safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
- Report on status and progress of work, causes of work delays, and answer questions on overall work operations and problems.
- Inspect assigned areas daily to ensure that it has been cleaned satisfactorily.
- Responsible for noting discrepancies from the Supervisor's Daily Report.
- Team member of the hospital's snow removal team.
- Performs regular housekeeping assignments.
Work Schedule: Sunday - Saturday, 3:30pm-12am ; 1:30pm-10pm; or 10pm-6:30am. Subject to shift changes, with varying days off, weekends, and Holiday work as needed.
Candidates must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours if determined by the needs of the service. Furthermore, candidates must be willing to be placed, detailed, or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.
This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
This occupation is being considered for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive (CSI). Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI. The amount of lump sum CSI is determined based on appointment date and may be pro-rated as determined by the end date of the CSI. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.

Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital, located 12 miles west of downtown Chicago on a 147-acre campus, offers primary, extended and specialty care and serves as a tertiary care referral center for VISN 12. Specialized clinical programs include Blind Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, Neurosurgery, Radiation Therapy and Cardiovascular Surgery. The hospital also serves as the VISN 12 southern tier hub for pathology, radiology, radiation therapy, human resource management and fiscal services. Hines VAH currently operates 483 beds and six community based outpatient clinics in Kankakee, Hoffman Estates, Oak Lawn, Aurora, LaSalle, and Joliet.
