The TVHS Whole Health chiropractic section chief provides care and oversight within the VA TVHS main campuses and CBOCs for chiropractic services.. The incumbent will work collaboratively with various other therapeutic specialty services and modalities at their assigned site of care. These modalities may include, but not limited to, acupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy, massage therapy, yoga, mindfulness, biofeedback, guided imagery, hypnosis, and tai chi.
Clinical Duties The exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. All chiropractors must provide the following:
1. Patient Care: Chiropractors are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life.
2. Medical/Clinical Knowledge: Chiropractors are expected to demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others.
3. Clinical Judgment: To ensure practice-based learning and improvement, chiropractors are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
4. Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Chiropractors are expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
5. Professionalism: Chiropractors are expected to demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession.
6. Systems-Based Practice: Chiropractors are expected to demonstrate both an understanding of the contexts and systems in which health care is provided, and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve optimizing health care.
Education:
Chiropractors are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitor and coordinate educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision. He/She is involved in implementing a Chiropractic Training Program through the Whole Health Service Line.
Supervision:
1. The incumbent reports to the Whole Health System Chief.
2. The incumbent follows established organizational structure and guidelines, assist in program planning and staff development across a variety of clinical settings for implementation systems, and be able to apply that knowledge as dictated by the exigencies of daily business.
3. Assures that all Program policies and procedures are in compliance with VHA regulations, Central Office directives, VISN guidelines, Hospital policy, Union Master Agreement, professional guidelines, and all accrediting and regulatory agencies.
4. He/she will implement procedures so that the minimum structural and process requirements stipulated by VACO for chiropractic services are satisfied.
5. He/she will be active in research activities related to the program development and evaluation processes and collaboration with the research assistant. The areas of research are typically of considerable scope and complexity and require novel approaches and which result in answers to important questions or important changes in existing methods and techniques.
6. He/she will ensure proper coordination between the delivery of CIH Clinical services and the overall delivery of healthcare within TVHS.
7. Provides subject matter expertise in the implementation of the Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation (OPCC & CT); Complementary & Integrative Health (CIH); Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM); and VISN initiatives related to CIH and chiropractic services.
Supervisory Controls:
The incumbent reports to the Whole Health System Chief. The incumbent works with minimal supervision and must be always responsible for sound decisions.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 am - 4 pm.
