The Program Support Assistant (PSA) for Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) provides direct administrative support primarily to the Chief of GEC and the GEC Programs with back up responsibilities for the Home Base Primary Care (HBPC) Medical Support Assistant (MSA) and GEC Administration Officer.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Tracks, monitors and produces performance measures reports, consult and encounter reports, and program budget reports;
  • Involved in planning, coordinating, and ensuring completion of office support functions such as data management, procurement of administrative supplies and equipment, printing, reproduction, space management, records management, mail service and equipment maintenance;
  • Preparation of memorandums, coordinating committee meetings producing agendas and meeting minutes, pull report data, prepare policy revisions, maintain files, and function as an effective liaison with all administrative and clinical services throughout the medical center and throughout the community;
  • Responsible for assisting program managers with accessing, collecting, compiling and tracking consults, program data and costs, statistical information in support of GEC program operations and to access status or outcomes in relation to established performance measures, goals and objectives;
  • Receives and processes documents; ensures reports are completed in accordance with established procedures; uses software applications to draw information from a wide variety of sources in order to prepare reports;
  • Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, VA and government forms (e.g. VA 1010EC forms), reports, memorandums, and other forms of written communication;
  • Maintains mail and correspondence filing system;
  • Recording secretary for team meetings, and oversight committee meetings with responsibility for maintenance and distribution of minutes;
  • And other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm; Telework available (Ad-Hoc)

Physical Requirements: The work involves some standing, walking, kneeling, bending squatting lifting and carrying light items 75% or more of the time. No special physical demands are required to perform the work; however, the work requires emotional stability to resolve crises situations.
  • This is a temporary, not to exceed one year position which may be extended or converted to a permanent position without further competitive procedures.
  • Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.
  • This position is a LIUNA Bargaining Unit position.
  • This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay.

Qualifications

GS-6 Grade Level:

  • One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
    • Specialized experience includes: Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production; knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms; expressing information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); making clear and convincing presentations; listening to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; and using computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-6 level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
