Conduct and evaluate a wide range of program management and administrative duties to fulfill requirements related to Veterans Health Administration's (VHA) academic mission and Office of Academic Affiliations' (OAA) strategic plans.
Establish, maintain, and evaluate the quality of Health Professions Education (HPE) programs and the quality of care delivered by health professions trainees (HPTs) at the VA medical facility.
Responsible for the technical work required for HPE programs including affiliation agreements, trainee qualifications and credentials letter (TQCVL), program letters of agreement (PLAs), direct HPT/affiliate staff customer service, and the on/off boarding processes of HPTs to include proper application documentation, appointment, security clearance, mandatory training, physical and logistical access, and data collection for OAA reporting.
Inform management with authoritative analyses, policy guidance and opinions regarding HPT appointment and on and off-boarding processes as it relates to HPE programs.
Enact process changes with OAA, affiliate staff, facility leadership, clinical and administrative service lines by implementing SOPs, developing and administering training programs, and advising on HPE regulations.
Maintain a broad perspective and comprehensive understanding of health care system administration and HPE programs is required to achieve OAA policy compliance and maximize utilization of resources.
Work independently and respond to requests for information and guidance from all levels of the organization.
Contributes to effective management and growth of local programs and academic affiliates to attract HPTs with the goal of eventual recruitment into VHA clinical provider positions.
Provide complex coordination across clinical and administrative service lines for process improvements to the on and off boarding processes of new healthcare professionals.
Utilizes knowledge and experience in health care delivery systems to oversee and manage HPT experiences from start to finish.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM PDT- 4:30 PM PDT.
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for ad-hoc telework. Ad-hoc telework is defined as situational telework approved on a case-by-case basis. Examples of situational or ad-hoc telework include telework because of inclement weather, doctor appointment, or special work assignments. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary; although, some slight physical effort is required. Accompanying HPTs through the medical site or clinical training site may be required. Some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. Stamina and concentration to meet crucial deadlines is required.
Work Conditions: The work is performed in a typical office environment located in a health care facility. The work environment involves everyday risks and discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The responsibilities of the position require occasional travel and may subject the position to various resultant environmental changes.
For this occupation, the education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
