Duties

Help

Serves as a principal advisor, driving strategic initiatives, operational excellence, and institutional innovation. Leads cross-functional teams, aligns resources with organizational goals, and integrates administrative, logistical, and IT functions. Key responsibilities include safeguarding data integrity, improving efficiency, and enhancing student and faculty experiences. Fosters stakeholder engagement, promotes collaboration, and shapes strategic priorities to ensure the university's success in a dynamic, global environment.

Directs, coordinates, and oversees work through subordinate supervisors, ensuring alignment with mission objectives. Provides guidance on policies, procedures, and directives, selects candidates for nonsupervisory roles, and recommends supervisory appointments based on qualifications and needs. Ensures equity in performance standards, explains expectations, offers feedback, and appraises performance. Approves critical expenses, recommends awards and supports the university's mission through teaching, scholarship, and service. Provides expert instruction, workshops, and briefings, ensuring alignment with AU's strategic goals. Offers high-level expertise, supporting projects through detailed reporting and presentations at symposia. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to foster partnerships and represents AU in academic and professional forums, enhancing its visibility and influence in the academic and defense communities.

Qualifications

  • In-depth understanding of senior headquarters staff functions, operational planning, the budget process, and the Department of Defense's education and training mission.
  • Proven experience leading functional staff, operations, planning, policy development, and the budget process within a senior headquarters or combatant command.
  • Expertise in applying management principles, including planning, programming, budgeting, and execution, while organizing, directing, and evaluating institutional processes and performance.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership, team-building, managing change, developing resources, and fostering collaboration in a diverse, complex, and evolving environment.
  • Extensive executive-level experience in large, diverse organizations, particularly within the IT sector, is highly desired.

Education

A master's degree in a relevant field of study, such as Public Administration, Business Administration, Information Technology, or a closely related field.

Additional information

The position will be an initial three-year appointment with a one-year probationary period, with the potential for continued reappointment for additional 1-5 year terms. This position is subject to Air University's tenure and promotion policy, this position is tenure-track eligible.
