As an Information Technology Specialist, you will:

Be responsible for systems reliability and accessibility, information systems security programs policy/strategic development, IT continuity of operations planning/support, and support the Department in integrating information security services and related technologies to accomplish departmental IT security goals and program objectives, and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.
Promote awareness of security issues among management and ensuring sound security principles are reflected in organizations’ visions and goal.
Participate and/or lead in network and systems design to ensure implementation of appropriate systems security policies.
Assess security events to determine impact and implements corrective actions ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of all IT services.
Provide program advice to senior DOT management and others on matters pertaining to information systems security programs policy/strategic development, IT continuity of operations planning/support, and support the Department in integrating information security services and related technologies to accomplish departmental IT security goals and program objectives.

The ideal candidate should have knowledge of IT systems and experience with managing servers, endpoints, troubleshooting issues, and installing hardware.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications.

To qualify for the Grade 13, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include:

Experience executing continuity support of core infrastructure technology and server administration (operating & maintaining) such as providing Active Directory support, implementation, and design services within an Enterprise environment to develop solutions to problems in existing application systems to resolve system failures and ensure an optimal computing environment.
Experience managing enterprise certificate services to ensure IT security implementation and maintenance of information assurance policies, procedures, and tools to warrant the integrity and confidentiality of IT systems, networks and data.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail when providing oversight of multiple IT projects, integrating dependent schedules and deliverables, and related activities (for example, benefits management, life cycle management, program governance).
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows how to protect information systems and data by ensuring their availability, authentication, confidentiality, and integrity.
Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately in line with the information technology (IT) strategy, plans, systems processes of the organization.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations based on IT baseline assessments, interagency functional analyses, contingency planning, and disaster recovery to prevent information systems vulnerabilities, security restoration of information systems and network services.
