Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-04 for GS-05, GS-05 for GS-06 and GS-06 for GS-07 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized Experience is defined as:

For the GS-05: Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS).
For the GS-06: Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS) and experience cataloging library materials.
For the GS-07: Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS), experience with library circulation procedures and assisting customers.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience is generally not applicable above GS-05, but may be considered if it is directly related to the position being filled.

Substitution of Education for Specialize Experience:

For the GS-05: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required.
For the GS-06: A half year (6 months) of successfully completed graduate level education in a field directly related to the position which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library and Information Studies.
For the GS-07: A full year (12 months) of successfully completed graduate level education in a field directly related to the position which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library and Information Studies.
