Serves as a senior Information Technology Specialist working for the Chief of the Forward/Contingency IT Support Team of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) J6 Europe, Africa, CENTCOM, and SOCOM (J6 EA/CS) organization.
Responsible for the planning, acquisition, installation, implementation, maintenance, modification, and operation of all end-user computing equipment, including all PC and PC peripheral configurations (hardware and software) at all J6 EA/CS sites....
PC peripherals include, but are not exclusive to, printers (slave and shared/ LAN connected), scanners, backup hardware (mass storage matrices and storage area networks), and scan guns.
Assists end-users with access and usage problems, some of which may be quite complex troubleshooting problem calls, assisting with the preparation and installation of new equipment, developing operating procedures, performing site surveys ....
.... and configuration designs, and developing reports for use by the organization.
Performs cost analysis, and studies various models of equipment for comparative analysis of performance characteristics, and updates the equipment configurations used in end-user computing.

Qualifications

To qualify for an IT Specialist (OS/CUSTSPT), your resume and supporting documentation must support:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:

Arranges for installation and testing of new products to determine their compatibility with existing baselines.
Conducts feasibility studies of possible hardware/software additions, upgrades and/or modifications to meet future requirements.
Develops plans and specifications for large end-user computing configurations serving a varied mix of end-user environments.
Conducts market surveys of hardware, software, and services to determine the availability of required technology and service providers.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary although some moving, bending, and lifting computer equipment and field gear in excess of 50 lbs may occasionally be required in order to inspect, install, and/or test all types of computer and communication equipment.

Work Environment: Work environment is dependent on the conditions associated with the deployment site; work may be performed in fairly standard office environment, or, more likely, work may be performed under difficult conditions in less than ideal surroundings. Depending on the nature of the crisis, the employee may be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE).

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

Additional information

This is an Expeditionary Civilian (EC) position, and the incumbent will be designated as EE. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent may be required to deploy via temporary reassignment or be required to stay in place to support contingency operations. The incumbent may be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively; therefore, the position requires the incumbent to be screened from military recall. Military Reservists selected for an EC position must arrange for removal from the reserve component prior to appointment to an EC position. This requirement must be met prior to placement in an EC position. Positions identified as EE are subject to deployment to combat support situations. Deployment will be via Temporary Duty (TDY) orders. Deployment may entitle the employee to additional monetary compensation dependent upon the deployment location. Additional allocations are based on the Department of State's determination of a combat zone.
