The typical season is from February to January. For the first year, you can expect to work a minimum of 22 pay periods not to exceed a maximum of 25 pay periods. This is a secondary-administrative firefighter position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S. C. 8336 (c) (CSRS) and 5 U. S. C. 8412 (d) (FERS). If such an applicant is selected, they will be placed in the regular retirement system. Duties
- Provides technical support on all aspects of fire operations including structural fire prevention, suppression operations, and firefighter training program.
- Maintains training logs for each team member in structural fire and all hazard disciplines, to track compliance with existing annual and biennial requirements.
- Assist in the investigation of the origin and cause of fires and prepares fire incident reports as well as supplemental technical investigation reports in coordination with safety and law enforcement.
- Represents the park at meetings to coordinate system integration to the Emergency Communication Center and response computer system. Maintains records of work in National Park Service identified Record Management Systems.

Working Conditions: Work is accomplished in an office setting and as well in a hazardous environment within the geographic boundaries of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Incumbents engaged in structural fire and all-hazard operations are frequently exposes to high risk and potentially dangerous situations which require a range of safety and other precautions. However, by following safety regulations these falls are minimized. Prolonged periods of rigorous physical exertion are required when hiking trails, and responding to search and rescue, or other emergency situations. The employee uses a variety of personal protective equipment.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

- The Work Capacity Test (WCT-Pack Test) as a method for assessing an employee's fitness levels for fire qualifications in the positions covered by this recruitment notice. Employees required to pass a WCT-Pack Test as a "condition of employment" will be provided one opportunity to pass the required test with a second chance provided at the discretion of management based on the results of the first test. This recruitment notice constitutes the required 30 days advanced notice for testing requirements. NOTE: Arduous fitness (WCT-Pack Test) will consist of completing a three-mile hike, within 45 minutes, while carrying a 45 pound pack. A time of 45 minutes, the passing score for the test, approximates an aerobic fitness score of 45, the established standard for firefighters. Applicants shall be disqualified for appointment if they fail to meet any physical requirement.
- You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

Area and Housing Information: This position is in Page, Arizona at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area on the Arizona-Utah border. Page overlooks beautiful Lake Powell which offers a variety of water sports including boating, fishing, and river running on the Colorado River above and below Lake Powell. The surrounding land is beautiful red rock country perfect for hiking, hunting, and backcountry activities. Page is at the hub of the Grand Circle which contains America's largest concentration of national parks and monuments, such as, Grand Canyon, Zion, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and the Flagstaff Area Monuments. Page offers normal small community amenities such as an airport, shopping, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12, and college courses available through the local Community College. The elevation is 4300 feet with high-desert sunny days, cool nights, and low humidity. Home purchases are available in the area. Government housing may be available by a bid process.
