As an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN/DATAMGT), you will:

Perform work that involves the planning, development, implementation, and administration of systems for the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of data.
Apply and adapt new and improved approaches to the design, development, and implementation of data mining, data warehousing, and related data storage and retrieval systems.
Provide guidance for the application of data modeling practices to the development of data management applications.
Perform work that involves planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems.
Plan and conduct simulations to determine capacity requirements and recommend hardware/software replacements or upgrades to meet current and future requirements.
Develop and implement migration strategies. Plan for continuity of operations during the deployment of new server technology.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience in 1) analyzing, developing, and implementing Microsoft SQL Database systems; 2) testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Server operating systems, hardware and software systems to support Microsoft SQL Relational Databases; 3) experience working with Windows PowerShell Scripting or other scripting languages to manage instances of the Database Engine and the objects in the instances; and 4) performing a variety of work involving planning, development, implementation, and administration of Server operating systems for the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of data.

"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
