As aNursing Assistant, you will:
Answer call lights promptly to determine Resident's needs. Provide comfort care and hygiene to Residents to include bathing, hair and nail care, oral hygiene, skin care and back rubs. Position Residents for comfort and therapy, serve and collect food trays and assist with feeding and maintaining a safe, clean, pleasant Resident environment. Assist Residents in walking, moving, and changing position by supporting and turning them. Accompany Residents to other areas of the facility for scheduled appointments, treatments, recreational, social and religious activities, and monitors and cares for Residents during transport to other medical treatment facilities. Accompany Residents to planned activities in the community or appointments scheduled as required. May be required to remain with the Resident when necessary. Maintain flow sheets and Resident records, documenting Resident care as per expected standards. Assist select Residents with personal laundry. Maximize Resident self-care in ADL's with appropriate assistive devices.
Take accurate vital signs (i.e. blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature) and other required measurements (i.e. height, weight). Recognize implications of changes and reports to provider and/or nursing supervisor. Assist the Charge Nurse with insuring flow of oxygen during administration of oxygen, and monitoring skin sites. Assist with the reporting of drainage on dressings. Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor /Charge Nurse apply and remove binders and bandages (arm slings, ace bandages, etc.). Apply ointments and powders, hot and cold treatments such as thermal sources and ice packs as directed by the nurse. Report findings and results to the Clinical Supervisor/Charge Nurse. Assist with providing emotional, physical comfort and safety needs of Residents. Prepare Residents and rooms for examinations and diagnostic tests; assist/chaperone Resident care providers during examinations, procedures, treatments and diagnostic tests. Perform routine procedures in accordance with established standard operating procedures for CNA education. Perform blood pressure screenings and application of bandages and splints, etc. The charge nurse/supervisor guides and directs the CNA in providing care to Residents with chronic and acute medical and surgical procedures such as tracheotomies, laryngectomies, receiving O2 administration using concentrators/tanks, recent post-op surgical procedures, amputations, external drains, grafts, flaps, decubiti, etc.
Obtain laboratory specimens, i.e., routine urine specimens; label specimens with Resident identification per AFRH policy and direction of Charge Nurse and transport specimens to laboratory for testing including blood, urine, stool, sputum and nasogastric tube specimens; obtain results (paper copy) from the laboratory as directed by Charge Nurse to be placed in chart.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
