The selectee for this position will serve as a developmental electronics technician performing work in a variety of areas, predominantly related to electrical power, electronics and controls, and HVAC. This is a trainee position with duties similar to the Full Performance Level (FPL) of GS-11.
Major Duties include, but are not limited to:

This position is part of the team at Reclamation's Brackish Groundwater National Desalination Research Facility (BGNDRF). The BGNDRF staff support a wide range of researchers from government, universities, private companies, research organizations, and state and local agencies. Staff have the opportunity to host events such as the Desal Prize, which was a competition geared to encourage renewable energy powered desalination systems, and Discovering Desal, where local elementary students learn about water quality and desalination.

This position is designated as a LOW RISK position. It requires a fully completed and favorably adjudicated SF85 Background Investigation (T1 or equivalent) that is current (within the last 5 years). This is a condition of employment.
Physical Demands: The work requires long periods of standing at instrument control panels and periods sitting at computers. Walking is frequently required to locations within the 43-acre BGNDRF complex in order to perform duties. Occasional lifting of components such as pumps weighing up to 50 lbs. is required. In addition, bending, crawling, climbing stairs and ladders up to 30 feet in height and frequent exposure to the elements will be encountered.
Working Conditions: Work will typically be about 70% indoors and 30% outdoors within the BGNDRF 43-acre complex. The indoor work will be at a desk, in the test bays, the upstairs mezzanines, the workshop, or other rooms throughout the BGNDRF complex. The outdoor work will be in a desert environment containing typical desert native and non-native vegetation and animal species such as poisonous snakes, and various kinds of insects and spiders some of which are poisonous. Outdoor temperatures range from extremes of about 0 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Occasional outdoor night-time work will be required.
