Duties

Help
  • Serve as program manager for one or more environmental programs.
  • Assure technical adequacy and compliance of installation plans, programs, and policies for assigned environmental programs.
  • Provide expert advice/technical assistance concerning local, state, federal, DOD, and Army environmental laws, regulations, policies, and directives concerning management and environmental processes.
  • Advise the Installation Commander, Director of Public Works, and higher officials on environmental problems that may affect the installation's ongoing mission.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Temporary duty travel (5% or less) away from the normal duty station may be required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state issued Driver's License.
  • Work requires considerable walking, bending, climbing, and stooping to get in and out of sites and to collect samples and make observational studies.
  • Regular and recurring exposure to construction and operation conditions such as noise, particulate matter, machinery; waters under treatment containing chemicals, bacteria and toxic particulates, and concentrated wastes from the treatment process.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet one of the basic education requirements, as well as the specialized experience, to qualify for this position. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

For the GS-12 level: Specialized Experience required: : One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience providing advice on the ecological and environmental aspects of the installation's facilities, systems and activities; implementing projects that include environmental compliance and protections systems; and making recommendations for the resolution of natural resource conflicts and issues to facilitate meeting project goals and objectives. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Education
