Incumbent works alone or in a group performing Mechanical, Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Cable Installation/Replacement, Welding/Metal Fabrication, Painting, Concrete work, etc. Incumbent accomplishes major and minor construction, replacement, or repairs associated with all types of building facilities, and structures, both indoors and outdoors. These activities are inclusive of roof, siding, doors, windows, fences, framing, equipment platforms, and accomplishment of "finish" work.
This position requires knowledge and application of materials; and safety and security regulations, practices and procedures. Incumbent works from blueprints, work orders, plans, sketches and other written specifications and/or oral instructions. Incumbent must be able to maintain, repair and use a variety of hand tools, testing equipment and power equipment characteristic of the various trades. The incumbent may be required to operate diesel/gasoline powered heavy equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, boom trucks, front end loaders, and trailers. Incumbent uses ammeter, voltmeter, test lamp, electric drill press, and various electrician hand tools. Incumbent constructs forms for pouring concrete footings, slabs, steps, walks, and repairing foundations. Uses common hand tools in performing tasks. Cleans brushes, rollers, spray guns, tank and hose with solvent. Maintains other tools and equipment and vehicles in safe and good working condition. Incumbent must be capable of operating or learning computer programs to include but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel. Incumbent must be capable of using dedicated maintenance logging software.
To qualify, no specific length of experience or training is required; however, you must show evidence of experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of a journey person Maintenance Mechanic in your resume. This position requires knowledge, skill and abilities in various trades of work such as mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding/metal fabrication, painting and general knowledge of electronics and equipment. This position is covered by the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
