Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
a. Provides the synchronization of capabilities and services that are always available, reliable and secure in support of the DoDIN.
b. Provides oversight to the J-3 for the direction and synchronization of the Agency in support of Joint Cyberspace Operations.
c. Provides oversight to the J-5 for the planning and the strategy of DISA's operational and strategic footprint by developing the Agency's Cyberspace campaign plans and policies in support of Combatant Commanders and the DoD.
d. Provides oversight to the J-7 for readiness reporting, joint exercise planning, quality assurance, joint lessons learned, continuity of operations program and network operations readiness reviews.
e. Provides overall management, operations, and maintenance of all assigned information processing elements within J-3/5/7, ensuring that responsive, reliable, and cost-effective processing services are provided to all customers. Exercises operational control of all assigned information technology within J-3/5/7.
Technical Qualifications (Mandatory):
MTQ 1. Demonstrated leadership experience of an Information Technology (IT) organization as well as experience in IT operations.
MTQ 2. In-depth knowledge of, and demonstrated expertise in, planning and managing investment strategies for the application of information technology and telecommunications technology in a large, diverse, multi- disciplined organization.
MTQ 3. Expertise and in-depth knowledge of enterprise architecture development and implementation.

This position is in the Senior Executive Service (SES), a small elite group of top government leaders. SES members possess a diverse portfolio of experiences including strong skills to lead across organizations.
The Director Operations Plans and Exercises serves more specifically as the Director, J-3/5/7 Operations, Plans, and Exercises and is responsible for providing authoritative direction and guidance that shapes the organization, direction, and control of information, by aligning the supporting resources required to achieve defined Agency objectives. The incumbent's role and actions will serve to ensure the operations of DISA enable and enhance the warfighter's ability to execute the mission as well as ensure the supporting Agency information technology (IT) programs are fully coordinated, integrated, and effectively implemented. The Director, J-3/5/7, will work closely and coordinate with the other J-DIRs (1,2,4,6,8,9); the Director, Acquisitions; the Director, Procurement; the Director, Enterprise Integration & Innovation (EII); Deputy Director (DDIR) & Director (DIR) DISA, to ensure a successful operation across DISA Area of Operations (DAO). The senior rater for the position is the DDIR, an SES Tier III/3-Star General Officer/Flag Officer equivalent.
