Typical duties of this position include the practice of safe work practices and eliminating safety hazards, custodial duties, grounds maintenance, cultural landscape rehabilitation and routine general maintenance required to maintain and sanitize buildings. As a uniformed employee the incumbent will also: provide information to visitors upon request, and first aid to employees and visitors when needed.
The successful applicants duties involves scrubbing, striping, waxing and polishing floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Washes walls using powered wall washing machine and/or by hand. Washes and replaces blinds and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment. Replaces and/or installs paper goods, etc, in restrooms.
The successful applicants duties will include various preparations to clean and maintain linoleum, wood, marble, and various kinds of floor, wall and ceiling surfaces. Removes stains from a variety of surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions. Occasionally works on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, wash walls, etc. Runs powered cleaning equipment; cleans and oils it, and changes brushes and accessories. As required, keeps shop areas clean and in order. Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes oil, hydraulic fluid, grease, and other spilled liquids.
The successful applicant duties will include the proper use of safety equipment and safe methods to operate a zero-turn mower, hedge trimmer and weed eater to maintain visitor center grounds. Be able to perform daily maintenance checks and minor repairs on equipment.
The successful applicant duties will include performing minor painting duties, to include touch up or spot painting as needed within the visitor center and repainting assets on the battlefield grounds.
The successful applicant duties will include the proper use of safety equipment and safe methods to clean ice and snow from walks, parking areas, and roads, operate lawn and snow removal equipment including snow blade, rotary broom, chains, salt spreaders and adjust and clean equipment.
The successful applicant duties will involve routine building maintenance, to include but not limited to, changing light bulbs, repairing sinks and toilets, minor plumbing issues, fixing damage to walls, and installing fixtures on walls. Applicant should also be able to perform normal grounds maintenance and sanitation without immediate supervision. Remove scrap and trash cans from area to central pickup point. Clean benches, exhibits and machinery etc. as directed. Performs general trash collection/removal from areas such as offices, restrooms, public areas, etc.
On a regular and recurring basis operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, small dump truck, flatbed trucks, etc…) to include pulling small double axel trailer, to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Incumbent is subject to climatic extremes in all weather conditions. Work conditions may be dusty, greasy and noisy. There is exposure to fumes and the possibility of electric shock, bruises, burns, scrapes and cuts. The work requires frequent special care to avoid injuries.
