Operates and performs operator maintenance on cars, trucks, and/or van and stake trucks to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work. May operate a dump truck to haul earth, gravel, sand, and similar materials and/or debris. Operates a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment in a variety of situations. May maintain cars and light duty trucks in performing tune-ups filter changes, lubrication, tire repair and/or replacement, and minor electrical, fuel, cooling and exhaust system repairs.
May perform other duties such as painting equipment; welding; assisting higher grade worker with maintenance of utility systems in the facility, including sewer and electrical distribution; trails and grounds work; and asphalt work and road maintenance by repairing pavement surfaces, i.e., chuck holes, edge raveling, ruts, bleeding, grade depressions, and makes utility cuts.
Performs carpentry repairs to buildings and quarters. Constructs, installs, repairs and replaces items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets. Performs custodial duties of cleaning buildings, offices and comfort stations, empties trash, and cleans and waxes a variety of floors. Applies premixed paints or stains to masonry, gypsum board or wood surfaces using brushes or rollers.
Performs plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets, and various types of pipe and copper lines.
Builds and sets forms on projects of limited scope and difficulty such as sidewalks and steps which do not require precise measurements and involve only the setting of forms in straight lines.
Patches and repairs roofs consisting of built up tar and paper, metal, as well as foam roofs and asphalt shingles.
WATER PLANT OPERATOR (If this duty is performed, the State where the position is located may require the incumbent to be certified or licensed to perform the work.) Works in a setting where the water meets acceptable standards without any treatment. Monitors pumping equipment; regulates the amount of water coming in from one or more sources; read meters, gauges and charts and records readings and prepares reports for the supervisor or a higher graded worker; and performs routine maintenance.
Performs masonry work of limited difficulty involving the maintenance, repair, construction, and/or stabilization of historic sites built of stone, mortar, or adobe and/or contemporary buildings, features or structures

Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS).
If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility.
The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM.

Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding.
