Incumbent supervises, plans, directs and administers a full range of Environmental Services (sanitation, pest control, linen management, waste, patient valuables, small moves and recycling) in his/her assigned area of the VAMHCS, CBOCs, and medical center. Responsible for supervision of subordinate employees in grades WG-1 through WG-9, to include both WS supervisors and WL work leaders to accomplish these services. 50%
Incumbent resolves routine problems by discussion with Nurse Managers, Supervisors etc. and keep his/her supervisor informed. Incumbent refers to his/her supervisor, all problems which should be resolved at the Chief/General Foreman level involving changes in established policy or procedures or should be brought to the attention of higher management as well as not-routine and unusual problems and situations.
Incumbent plans the dally activities of his/her employees and establishes deadlines for absences and to accomplish priorities. Make several daily rounds through his/her assigned areas, ensuring that the required services are being provided in a correct and acceptable manner. As a means of evaluating employee performance and the condition of the center, incumbent administers the sanitation service Inspection program. This consists of regularly scheduled sanitation service Inspections of all areas/employees, documentation of inspections, communicating results to employees and take action for noncompliance. And required follow up to ensure corrections are being made in a timely manner. Results are maintained for one year and utilized for employee counseling, evaluations, awards and disciplinary actions. 25%
Incumbent performs the full range of personal management functions such as assignments, training, leave administration, performance appraisals, counseling, award recommendations, accident reports and disciplinary, but not limited to the aforementioned.
Incumbent is responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with supervisory staff of other services throughout the VAMHCS in order to accomplish the EMS mission. He/she are
also required to be familiar with Labor/Management Agreements, OWCP process, EEO regulations and deal effectively with local union representatives.
Incumbent will ensure that applicable JCA, OSHA, EPA and NFPA regulations are adhering to in their areas and by their employee's. Incumbent will demonstrate compliance with EEO principles, policies and support affirmative action goals.
Incumbent is responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with all policies and procedures pertaining to EMS functions and must know, and be able to apply, the latest products and work methods in the environmental care field. He/she formulates operational techniques and recommends changes to existing policies and procedures. 25%
Fully supports and Implements all station EEO and safety programs. Performs other duties as assigned.
