Performs work in one or more recreational facilities for various aquatic activities that may include: aquatic therapy or exercise sessions, aquatic sports activities or programs and/or for similar Warrior Hope and Care Center (WHCC) recreational services.
Performs rescue work for wounded, ill and injured swimmers, promptly renders CPR or emergency first aid, and calls for medical assistance as necessary. Supervises wounded, ill and injured swimmers for safety and crowd control. Enforces established safety and pool regulations. Promptly reports safety hazards to the supervisor. Completes incident reports and assists in maintaining routine documents and reports
Skill and ability to work with wounded, ill and injured Marines/Sailors who have special needs. Assists the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or Certified Athletic Trainer at pool side when conducting sessions with wounded, ill or injured swimmers. Provides assistance at the therapy pool when camera imaging or other therapy pool functions are in session. May assist wounded, ill and injured swimmers in performing aqua exercises to complete prescribed therapy plans and regimens.
Responsible for the cleanliness of facilities and all the pool areas. May vacuum, skim, and perform routine pool maintenance and perform routine maintenance on therapy pools and associated equipment. May operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. May operate highly technical therapy pool controls to assist wounded, ill or injured Marines/Sailors in and out of the pool. May apply disinfectant to showers, floors, and decks. May check ID cards for authorized patrons.
This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 45lbs independently and over 45lbs with assistance to include performing work that poses physical demands beyond normal requirements during rescue situations.
Provides superior customer service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists Marines/Sailors and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EVALUATIONS:
Current lifeguard certification with at least six months experience as a lifeguard. Possess current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), and basic first aid certificates. Understanding of, and ability to enforce, safety regulations to ensure maximum protection of swimmers. Ability to use various pool equipment to take pool and environmental readings. Ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs independently and over 45 lbs with assistance to include performing work that poses physical demands beyond normal requirements during rescue situations.
